Surely the metric is dependent on the stakeholder concerned? I rather took that to be the point of the article, in that the value created by the organisation is measured in the context of the observer. For the company, value is measured in complex terms: it’s simply not enough to address margin, or shareprice as a sufficiently effective metric of success. For example, the relationship between different kinds of value should be explored (say between sales, margin, reputational markers and CSR goals), and presented severally and as a compound measure.
