Comment on Beyond the New Biography: What Leaders Can Learn from Elon Musk by Behnam Tabrizi by Kyle https://www.druckerforum.org/blog/beyond-the-new-biography-what-leaders-can-learn-from-elon-musk-by-behnam-tabrizi/#comment-421798 Wed, 27 Dec 2023 16:36:07 +0000 https://www.druckerforum.org/blog/?p=4409#comment-421798 I disagree with Isaacson that Musk’s awful treatment of people has been necessary for his success. In fact, to the contrary, I’d say it has hurt him at times. It is Tesla that makes up the majority of his net worth and he literally almost destroyed that company with his insistence on automating the entire factory, which his executives warned him wouldn’t work, as that has to be done gradually. He “knew” he was right though and plowed ahead and it blew up in his face. The company would have likely gone under if not for China coming to its aid and allowing construction of a factory in China. But even if not, he still brought it far closer to failing than he should have.

I’d say Musk’s penchant for risk and super work ethic are the primary contributors to his success, along with his engineering skill. But his horrible personality is not necessary.

Comment on The Call for Resilience by Pierre Le Manh by Muhammad Anisuzzaman https://www.druckerforum.org/blog/the-call-for-resilience-by-pierre-le-manh/#comment-421795 Sat, 23 Dec 2023 18:24:59 +0000 https://www.druckerforum.org/blog/?p=4438#comment-421795 I really appreciate the essence of this great article! This will surely help me a lot to become resilient in project management and to my organization as well. This article wonderfully described the most severe black swan events, economic crisis and great recessions as consequences worldwide. It has presented experiences of many unexpected disruptions and challenges during past few years. It has reflected the consequences of pushing big bets onto an organization strategy. The author has recommended to avoid these bets from causing failure and consequent lethal. The author suggested for at least directionally 70/20/10 principles instead of mostly used 90/8/2 principles for resource allocation to make wide ranging room for innovation and to be very intentional about it. The author also suggested for hybrid approaches of project management that PMI most often favors. He also emphasized on the application of principles of corporate agility to corporate strategy to preserve the corporate resilience. Finally, the author suggested more importantly on combination of fluidity when it comes to structure and plans, and rigidity when it comes to purpose thus to become more resilient avoiding fundamental disruptions, black swan events, unexpected disruptions and challenges.
